The S.A. Country Fire Service and the Victorian Country Fire Authority are sharing V.H.F. narrowband frequencies. Due to the complex nature of the C.F.A. repeater system many of the frequencies required by the CFS are re-used on multiple channels.

The CFS currently use Analog Narrow FM modulation, however it is expected that prior to the 2016/17 fire season they will change to P25 digital. The P25 NAC codes are listed above, by entering these codes into your scanner you will ensure that you are listening to transmissions on the correct channel.

Aircraft
Aircraft operating around fires use the airband frequency 132.550mhz for coordination and maintaining separation

H.F. Network
The CFS have been trialing the use of 'Automatic Link Establishment' (ALE) equipped Codan HF radios in remote areas for many years. Locations that do not have GRN coverage still utilise H.F. frequencies.

The use of satellite telpehones is widespread in remote areas, however issues have arisen in some locations and in areas with thick smoke, therefore HF is often regarded as a more robust alternative. The CFS and SES share some of the ALE facilities.

CFS H.F. Frequencies
Ch 1 - 2.580 Mhz
Ch 2 - 2.660 Mhz Secondary Night Frequency
Ch 3 - 2.668 Mhz
Ch 4 - 3.372 Mhz Primary Night Frequency
Ch 5 - 5.945 Mhz Primary Day Frequency
Ch 6 -7.596 Mhz Secondary Day Frequency
Ch 7 - 4.510 Mhz
Ch 8 - 6.780 Mhz
Ch 9 - 10.161 Mhz
Ch 10 - 3.704 Mhz
