The S.A. Country Fire Service and the Victorian Country Fire Authority are sharing V.H.F. narrowband frequencies. Due to the complex nature of the C.F.A. repeater system many of the frequencies required by the CFS are re-used on multiple channels.

The CFS previously used Analog Narrow FM modulation, howeve in 2017 they changed to P25 digital - utilising the same frequencies. The P25 NAC codes are listed above, by entering these codes into your scanner you will ensure that you are listening to transmissions on the correct channel.

A number of P25 UHF frequencies are also allocated for repeater use.

ALIAS FREQUENCY USE
A250-FIRE-R1 467.6250 REPEATER
A251-FIRE-R2 423.7375 REPEATER
A252-FIRE-R3 423.8625 REPEATER
A253-FIRE-R4 423.9875 REPEATER
254-IVR 467.6000 IN VEHICLE REPT.

Aircraft
Aircraft operating around fires use the airband for coordination and maintaining separation. These frequencies will become very active at an incident as many aircraft may be operating at different altitudes and coordination is critical.

F-CTAF
132.550 Mount Lofty Ranges
126.350 Lower Eyre Peninsula
126.950 Lower South East
130.950 Mid North
131.200 Statewide
119.100 Statewide

H.F. Network
The CFS have HF base sites located at Coober Pedy and Para Wirra. These sites have remote access, enabling personnel to interact with the HF network from any location. There is also the ability to patch HF into SAGRN talkgroups. Codan HF radios fitted with digital voice and Automatic Link Establishment (ALE) are used.

The use of satellite telpehones is widespread in remote areas, however issues have arisen in some locations and in areas with thick smoke, therefore HF is often regarded as a more robust alternative. The CFS and SES share some of the ALE facilities.
